Meditation & Yoga Retreats in Morocco

Morocco's retreat scene blends yoga, wellness, and Sufi spiritual heritage. The Atlas Mountains south of Marrakech host yoga retreats in restored kasbahs and Berber villages, often with mountain hiking and hammam visits built into the schedule. Marrakech itself offers riad-based wellness weeks combining yoga, ayurveda, and Moroccan hammam traditions. The Atlantic coast — Essaouira, Taghazout, Sidi Kaouki — adds surf to the yoga retreat formula; the latter two are especially popular with European yoga-and-surf weeks. Morocco's deeper spiritual tradition is Sufi (Islamic mystical) and includes pilgrimage centers (zawiyas) around Fes; while these are not retreats in the Western sense, some international centers offer respectful introductions to Sufi practice and sacred music. Buddhist and pure-meditation retreats are limited but growing. English and French are widely spoken at retreat centers; some are run by French- or Spanish-speaking facilitators. Food is Moroccan vegetarian — tagines, couscous, fresh produce. Best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November); summer inland is very hot. Most Western passports get 90-day visa-free entry. Cost: €600–€1,800 for a week, including riad-style accommodation.
