Egypt's retreat scene clusters around two very different environments. The Red Sea coast — Dahab, Sharm El Sheikh, Marsa Alam, Soma Bay — hosts year-round yoga retreats often combined with freediving, snorkeling, or scuba. Dahab in particular has a long-established yoga community that runs week-long retreats in beachfront eco-camps. Inland, the Sinai desert (around Mount Sinai/St. Catherine) offers silent retreats and pilgrimage-style walks shaped by both Bedouin and Coptic Christian monastic traditions; some retreats include visits to Saint Catherine's Monastery, one of the world's oldest active monasteries. The Western Desert oases (Siwa, Bahariya) host smaller, more remote retreats. Egypt's deeper spiritual heritage — Sufi Islamic mystical tradition and Coptic contemplative Christianity — is accessible to respectful visitors, though usually through cultural rather than retreat-style programs. English is widely spoken at international retreat centers; food is Mediterranean/Middle Eastern with strong vegetarian options. October–April is the comfortable retreat season; May–September is very hot. Most Western passports get visa-on-arrival or e-visa. Cost: $600–$1,800 for a week, with desert retreats often at the lower end.
