Peru's retreat scene is built around the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the Amazon basin, with two very different traditions. The Sacred Valley (Pisac, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo) hosts yoga, meditation, breathwork, and Andean shamanic retreats at altitudes that suit gradual acclimatisation; many programs incorporate plant-medicine ceremonies (San Pedro, ayahuasca) led by indigenous or trained Western facilitators. In the Amazon — particularly around Iquitos, Tarapoto, and Pucallpa — long-established ayahuasca retreat centers run multi-week traditional dieta programs with Shipibo curanderos. Quality and safety vary enormously: choose centers with on-site medical support, transparent screening, and verifiable lineage; avoid heavily commercial operators. Yoga and silent meditation retreats also operate in Lima and Cusco. Lima's coast is mild year-round; the highlands have a dry season (May–September) that is the recommended retreat window. Spanish is the working language; many retreats also operate in English. Most Western passports enter visa-free for 90–183 days.
